Abstract: The article analyzes the transformation of the family institution caused by the technological development on the example of the Greater Urals region. The authors have studied the periodization of the change of technological modes with the phases of demographic transition on the example of the Greater Urals. Then the authors studied how the revealed regularities influenced the changes in the demographic characteristics of the family institute not only in the conditions of the change of technological patterns for 250 years, but also in the conditions of the change of the world economic pattern. The results of the analysis led to the conclusion that a strong connection exists between the world economic structure and changes in the institution of the family, as well as the development of human capital and the importance of its transfer in the intergenerational gap. The authors identify contradictions between the need for technological development and changes in the institution of the family. On the one hand, technological development does not involve large numbers of people, while on the other it destroys the traditional model of a family with children. The complication of the socio-economic sphere in the new technological mode implies the formation of a new economic model, which should correspond to the new world economic mode. Scientific and technological progress or new industrialization always contributes to the formation of a new structure of division of labor, in which there will be practically no place for obsolete skills of people specialized in old technological patterns. Consequently, these people and areas will be outside the new economic model.
