Abstract: The high quality of life and the health of the population can be ensured only by maintaining an acceptable quality of the environment. Environmentally unfriendly technologies currently used in economic activities create threats to the environment and the life of the population as well as increase the risk of human-made disasters. The article discusses the emerging changes made to the system of indicators for assessing the quality of life (QOL) taking into account the influence of anthropogenic hazards. The QOL has traditionally been used as a complex socio-economic indicator that includes the most important aspects of life such as the amount of income, the availability and quality of consumer goods, housing conditions, health, education, wealth and security, the quality of the environment, etc. The authors propose to take into account the influence of disasters and catastrophes caused by the action of an anthropogenic factor when assessing the QOL. The analysis of methodological approaches to the assessment of the QOL showed that the most complete coverage of factors influencing the QOL and statistically controlled indicators is presented in the comprehensive methodology of the Council for the Study of Productive Forces. The methodology includes indicators of the diagnosis of the QOL in the region in the context of the seven main areas. A composite index is calculated for each area combining specific indicators using the multivariate mean formula, and then the seven composite indexes are linked into an integral indicator of the quality of life. This particular method was considered by the authors as the basic one for the proposed modifications. The veracity of the allegations is confirmed by the example of assessing the influence on the quality of life from the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
